Blythe and Me: Alice of My Plastic Fantasy

Hello everyone! I haven't done a Blythe and Me post for quite a while and I missed it so much. Putting together a post after the interview is always the best part because I love featuring wonderful bloggers who not only share my big love for Blythe dolls, but are also creative and talented ladies everyone can draw inspiration from. :)

Today I'm posting my long-due mini interview with the super cool chick from the UK, Alice of My Plastic Fantasy. She runs a cute shop on Etsy and her Flickr account is a treasure trove of really amazing things featuring her mad photography skills. You'll love her for sure! Let's get to know her more.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your awesome blog?
Hello! My name is Alice, and I'm a twenty-something toy enthusiast based in Scotland who loves photography, anglo-saxon, spaceships, toys, superheroes and yarn. My blog is a mishmash of all the things I love! Blythe features a lot because she's my not-so-secret favourite of all the plastic lovelies that live with me.

What got you into collecting Blythe dolls and can you share with us the story behind your very first Blythe?
I first saw the book Blythe Style in 2006 in a local art gallery gift shop and we fell instantly in love. My friends thought she was terrifying, and I thought she was the most amazing thing ever. I kind of wrote off ever actually owning one - until I turned 18 and my wonderful grandparents gave me some money for my birthday. With their blessing, I bought my very first Neo Blythe -  an Angelica Eve. I practically camped out on the doormat waiting for the postman. It all spiralled wildly out of control from there...

How many Blythe dolls do you currently have? Do you have a particular favorite?
I currently own one Kenner, six Neos, one Middie and an increasingly large army of Littlest Pet Shop petites. I love my Kenner to bits, because she is so old and amazing and special, but just edging into first place is my Doronjo, Jessica. She comes pretty much everywhere with me.

Do you also feature your Blythe dolls on your blog? Any other special activities you do with your dolls (like maybe bringing them when you travel, sewing clothes for them, photoshoots)?
My Blythes do feature on my blog, as do all my toys - I called my blog 'My Plastic Fantasy' a.) because I probably thought I was being really cool and edgy quoting a Dresden Dolls song and b.) because I have a major problem with plastic. I love toys. All toys! Blythe is my favourite because she has encouraged me to get involved in so many other things. I love to take photos of her, sew for her, knit for her, crochet for her, customise her, take her on adventures... all of which you can see on my blog. :)

Aside from Blythe dolls, are you also into collecting other things?
I also have a very soft spot for Pullips, Dals and Taeyangs... and have a small family of those as well as my Blythe girls. I have dabbled in BJDs, and currently have a Pukifee living with me. I love vinyl toys, like Crazy Label and Kidrobot. I love takochus, fingerpuppets, amigurumi, Sonny Angels, Lego, My Little Pony, plastic dinosaurs, Cavey, Playmobil, Star Wars action figures, Monster High... I could go on - I just really love all toys, indiscriminately and enthusiastically! Aside from toys, I also have a growing yarn stash and far too many comics. I'm definitely a hoarder!

Blythe and Me: Emily of CraftyGirl*

Our featured blogger for today's Blythe and Me series is none other than Emily, the sweet and fun-loving Australian girl behind the blog CraftyGirl*. She's only fourteen, but her creativity is just so massive it's hard not to love her to bits. She even co-founded The Utterly Awesome Blythe Club together with her friends which I have to say, really turns this teener's cool factor up a notch. Here's her "utterly awesome" Blythe collection story:

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your awesome blog?
My name is Emily, and I am a 14 year old blogger from Australia. I blog over at CraftyGirl*. I love to spend my days crafting and making things for friends, Blythes and myself, taking photos, going thrifting, playing Blythes, dressing up and more! I am not your average 14 year old, because I love to dress so differently than everyone at school, and still play with dolls!

What got you into collecting Blythe dolls and can you share with us the story behind your very first Blythe?
A few years ago (I think 2007) I signed up for an online class with Elsie Larson. She put a photo of a Blythe, and to be honest, my mum and I used to say how creepy they were! Fast forward to 2010, and I had a girl named Bella who started commenting on my blog. I went to her blog and re-discovered Blythe, and LOVED them! We started chatting a bit about Blythes and I finally decided to get one right after!

When I got my first Blythe, I just had a bike accident. Basically I was going down a very long steep hill outside my house. I had done it SO many times I thought nothing could happen, but I was wrong. My mum decided to get me a Blythe doll for me to have something to keep my mind off the soreness. We ordered a Cassiopeia Spice, who I named Grace. When she came my fingers were so bruised and had blood blisters, so my brother and mum had to dress her for me!

How many Blythe dolls do you currently have? Do you have a particular favorite?
I currently have 8 Blythe dolls which I LOVE! I have 3 favourites, but my most favourite would have to be Milly, my custom Mini Me. She has matching glasses to match me, and she always looks right into my eyes! She is so alive sometimes!

Do you also feature your Blythe dolls on your blog? Any other special activities you do with your dolls (like maybe bringing them when you travel, sewing clothes for them)?
I feature my Blythe dolls on my blog regularly! I post photos of them, D.I.Y's, blythe doll mail I have received and sent, and more like that. I love to crochet for my blythe dolls, and whenever we travel somewhere, I always take a blythe doll or two! When we go out sometimes to special places, or markets, I take one of them.

Aside from Blythe dolls, are you also into collecting other things?
I have quite the collection of keyrings. Most of them are vintage. I have one key, and about a million keyrings! I also love to collect re-ment and Blythe doll miniatures, coins from other countries or special coins, stamps, scout or girl guide badges and cute things!

Blythe and Me: Jane of Ddalkijane

Hello everyone! I hope a lot of you enjoyed the very first Blythe and Me feature with Violet of Blythe Ponytail Parades last week. I had an amazing time putting together that post so I'm really excited to get started with the second feature. :)

For today's installment of the Blythe and Me series, I have interviewed one of the friendliest bloggers I know  ―  Jane of Ddalkijane. She's a creative Korean now based in America with her cool hubby and an even cooler cat named Gamja. Aside from her pretty dolls, her random daily life musings and fun drawings are always something I look forward to everyday. Let's get to know her more and her blog, together with her enormous Blythe dolls collection. She's got so many dolls I could only dream of having!

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your awesome blog?
I'm Jane. My blog is about my daily life plus Blythe dolls and ddalki (meaning strawberry in Korean) diary which reflects my feelings and my daily life.

What got you into collecting Blythe dolls and can you share with us the story behind your very first Blythe?
I discovered Blythe dolls from the internet for the very first time in 2005. I wanted to get one for myself, but since I couldn't find any Blythe sellers near my place, I wasn't able to get one. I didn't trust online shopping at that time. But in 2006, I decided to order my first Blythe doll, Samedi Marche from a store called Toy Tokyo in New York. When I received her I was the happiest person in the world. :)

I got my second Blythe doll, White Magic Night from Toy Tokyo while I was traveling in New York. The rest of my dolls I got from Ebay.

How many Blythe dolls do you currently have? Do you have a particular favorite?
I have 14 Blythe dolls, 1 Middie Blythe and 1 unopened Blythe doll. My favorite doll is Samsoon (I named her after my favorite character from a Korean TV drama) and she's the first doll that I got. Abbie (I named her after one of my friends who lives in UT) is one of the dolls that my awesome friend, Natsuko in Japan gave a plastic surgery (customized).

Do you also feature your Blythe dolls on your blog? Any other special activities you do with your dolls (like maybe bringing them when you travel, sewing clothes for them)?
I do "Blythe on Friday" on my blog. I used to carry my dolls everywhere I went but I realized that I got scratches on my dolls' face, so I don't do that very often now. I've wanted to do something with my Blythe dolls on my blog so I came up with the idea of posting about my Blythe dolls on my blog every Friday instead.

Also, I started learning how to sew and use the sewing machine. I've already made a couple outfits for my Blythe dolls and plan on selling them once I became good at sewing. I do a little customizing with my dolls sometimes like changing their eye chips, sanding their face, giving them new eye makeup & lips color. In fact, I just recently did my first re-rooting hair process. :)

Aside from Blythe dolls, are you also into collecting other things?
I also collect Sony Angel and Harajuku Lovers perfume.

Blythe and Me: Violet of Blythe Ponytail Parades

What better way to start off this new Blythe and Me feature series than with Violet, the talented photographer from Indianapolis and the girl behind this cool slice of the internet called Blythe Ponytail Parades. From creative tutorials to fun and inspiring daily life posts coupled with professional photos, I'm sure you'd find yourself instantly hooked reading through her latest blog posts and archives. She has this distinct dreamy style that sets her photography apart from all the others and it doesn't hurt also that she happens to be one of the nicest ladies in the blogosphere ever. :)

I've always been such a huge fan of her, so I was more than glad and excited when she agreed to sign up for this mini interview. Here's her story:

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your awesome blog? 

My name is Violet and I'm obsessed with photography, my puppy, decorating, food and my husband. I blog over at Blythe Ponytail Parades, a compilation blog featuring my photography and life! I love keeping my blog fresh and up to date, because in the long run, it's really a visual journal for myself documenting the wonderful things in life.  

What got you into collecting Blythe dolls and can you share with us the story behind your very first Blythe?

I discovered Blythe dolls back in 2007 on Flickr. My love was instantaneous! I loved their large eyes and that they could change colors. Plus I've always been in love with all things Japanese. ;)

How many Blythe dolls do you currently have? Do you have a particular favorite?

I currently own four large Blythe dolls. I LOVE them all, but Sadie Jane is my favorite.

Do you also feature your Blythe dolls on your blog? Any other special activities you do with your dolls (like maybe bringing them when you travel, sewing clothes for them)? 

I do feature them from time to time. I used to do photoshoots with them ALL the time on my FLICKR. I loved taking them with me to places and showing them "doing things" with me. I haven't done it in a while, but I want to get back into it! :)

Aside from Blythe dolls, are you also into collecting other things? 

I LOVE old books. I have an enormous collection. I also love antiques in general, cameras and other Japanese toys!

Blythe and Me

Hello! How's your Sunday going, everyone? I hope you're all enjoying the weekend with much rest, good food and fun times with your loved ones. :)

I was really inspired by sweet Emily's recent fun shoot with her Blythe dolls in this post. In fact, we were supposed to go to the park yesterday and I planned on bringing my dolls and camera with me for a little photo shoot of my own, but unfortunately, the scorching weather here in the desert just won't allow us. We went home slightly disappointed. Really can't wait for this cruel summer to wrap up. I miss the outdoors a whole lot! It's hard to keep a cool head sometimes when the sun is just so merciless outside. Even a little bit of rain would really mean so much for my sanity for sure.

I'm curious. What's the weather like in your part of the globe?

These are two of my dolls named Tippy and Lottie. Tippy is a Border Spirit Neo Blythe, while Lottie is a Very Vicky Neo Blythe. You probably know by now how much of a big Blythe fan I am. I don't have a lot of dolls at the moment, but if my finances would allow, I intend to grow my collection in the future *fingers crossed*. So anyway, I've been thinking about starting a new interview series here that would feature some awesome bloggers I know who are also into collecting Blythe dolls. I really enjoy reading posts about other people's stories and adventures with their wide-eyed dollies and I'm glad that a few wonderful ladies have already agreed and signed up for the feature. I'm putting together the first installment right now and so excited to post it here. :)
