The clutter fairy

My work slash make-up table at home is looking pretty neat these days, and given my extremely disorganized nature, this is something I'm really really proud of. You see, I have a mild compulsive hoarding problem and because of this, my place always tends to look more like a garage instead of homey    a messy storage of all sorts. Add my hoarding problem to my bad habit of not putting things back to their rightful place and you have all out mega clutter in the equation. It's insane.

I tried justifying all the clutter by saying that I'm one of those people who need creative chaos in order to function but thing is, all my unnecessary stuff and junks keep on accumulating and oftentimes it's causing me too much trouble. Like my inability to find things whenever I need them or just feeling all cranky after seeing all my garbage that I can't ever manage to dispose. :(

In keeping up with my newly-found organized ways, I got this really cute Tinker Bell desk figurine the other day and it has the word "BELIEVE" in it. A little something to keep me inspired and believe that I am capable of living in a clutter-free environment. Definitely adds a pretty little touch to my table too.

Are you anything like me at all? Do you also find yourself in a constant mess like I do?

  1. I'm always in a war to keep my desk organized, one of this days I really thought about moving to another apartment, just so that I could start over from scratch and keep things organized.

  2. Sounds like me. Too much stuff, too little space. It's hard to stay neat when there just isn't enough room to put everything. Your dresser is looking very nice, though!

  3. Your desk is looking really nice. My apartment right now looks like it should be declared a disaster area. Aside from being generally messy as it always is, I'm starting to pull things out to pack in anticipation of moving. It's terrible. Good luck with your clutter-free agenda!

  4. Hi Aizzing! My name is Gayle Goddard and my company name is....The Clutter Fairy! I live in Houston, Texas and I'm a professional organizer. I love your beautiful desk there, and I especially love your boyfriend's encouraging gift - good for him for choosing positive feedback!

I know this sounds counterintuitive, but getting sick of living in the mess is the first step on the path to doing it differently. You mentioned justifying the mess as necessary creative chaos, but when you can recognize your thoughts as justifying, you're ready to try something new. Baby steps are what you want, small victories to encourage you on your way, and clearing the desktop is a great example. Kudos on beginning to see it differently - I wish you great success in your journey to declutter your space.

    All the best, Gayle G.
