Blythe and Me: Alice of My Plastic Fantasy

Hello everyone! I haven't done a Blythe and Me post for quite a while and I missed it so much. Putting together a post after the interview is always the best part because I love featuring wonderful bloggers who not only share my big love for Blythe dolls, but are also creative and talented ladies everyone can draw inspiration from. :)

Today I'm posting my long-due mini interview with the super cool chick from the UK, Alice of My Plastic Fantasy. She runs a cute shop on Etsy and her Flickr account is a treasure trove of really amazing things featuring her mad photography skills. You'll love her for sure! Let's get to know her more.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your awesome blog?
Hello! My name is Alice, and I'm a twenty-something toy enthusiast based in Scotland who loves photography, anglo-saxon, spaceships, toys, superheroes and yarn. My blog is a mishmash of all the things I love! Blythe features a lot because she's my not-so-secret favourite of all the plastic lovelies that live with me.

What got you into collecting Blythe dolls and can you share with us the story behind your very first Blythe?
I first saw the book Blythe Style in 2006 in a local art gallery gift shop and we fell instantly in love. My friends thought she was terrifying, and I thought she was the most amazing thing ever. I kind of wrote off ever actually owning one - until I turned 18 and my wonderful grandparents gave me some money for my birthday. With their blessing, I bought my very first Neo Blythe -  an Angelica Eve. I practically camped out on the doormat waiting for the postman. It all spiralled wildly out of control from there...

How many Blythe dolls do you currently have? Do you have a particular favorite?
I currently own one Kenner, six Neos, one Middie and an increasingly large army of Littlest Pet Shop petites. I love my Kenner to bits, because she is so old and amazing and special, but just edging into first place is my Doronjo, Jessica. She comes pretty much everywhere with me.

Do you also feature your Blythe dolls on your blog? Any other special activities you do with your dolls (like maybe bringing them when you travel, sewing clothes for them, photoshoots)?
My Blythes do feature on my blog, as do all my toys - I called my blog 'My Plastic Fantasy' a.) because I probably thought I was being really cool and edgy quoting a Dresden Dolls song and b.) because I have a major problem with plastic. I love toys. All toys! Blythe is my favourite because she has encouraged me to get involved in so many other things. I love to take photos of her, sew for her, knit for her, crochet for her, customise her, take her on adventures... all of which you can see on my blog. :)

Aside from Blythe dolls, are you also into collecting other things?
I also have a very soft spot for Pullips, Dals and Taeyangs... and have a small family of those as well as my Blythe girls. I have dabbled in BJDs, and currently have a Pukifee living with me. I love vinyl toys, like Crazy Label and Kidrobot. I love takochus, fingerpuppets, amigurumi, Sonny Angels, Lego, My Little Pony, plastic dinosaurs, Cavey, Playmobil, Star Wars action figures, Monster High... I could go on - I just really love all toys, indiscriminately and enthusiastically! Aside from toys, I also have a growing yarn stash and far too many comics. I'm definitely a hoarder!

Thank you so much, Alice for sharing your Blythe story! Get to know more about Alice and her doll collection through her blog. You can also connect with her through the following links: Twitter, Etsy and Flickr.

Are you a blogger who's also into collecting Blythe dolls? I'd love to feature you and your collection here in Icing & Write! Please send a quick email to aizzing(at)icingandwrite(dot)com with the subject "Blythe and Me" so I can hook you up with the details.

Our Palm Jumeirah Monorail Experience

I can't believe I've never tried riding the Monorail in my more than two years here in Dubai. It was so much fun! Last Saturday, we grabbed some of our friends with us to finally try the Monorail in Palm Jumeirah Island. It's a driver-less train that connects the man-made island to the rest of Dubai. A return trip costs less than seven dollars and shows passengers really stunning views. The journey is short but sweet, and will surely make you see this Emirate in a different and exciting light. Here are some of the photos I took while inside the train:

From the beaches along Jumeirah and the amazing skyscrapers, to the renowned Burj Al Arab hotel and Atlantis, a ride in the Monorail is definitely a must-try. There's so much to see! It's really an experience!

Hope all of you are enjoying a fabulous weekend too. What have you been up to? :)

Monday Favorites - Star studded

Happy Monday everyone! I woke up extra early this morning and just felt like today is bound to be perfect in a weird "stars-are-aligned-and-all-universe-will-conspire-in-my-favor-for-sure-this-time" kinda way. Yesterday was just in total limbo that it's only fair for today to be nothing but amazing. That's how it works, right? So armed with nothing but positivity, I became instantly inspired to put together yet another Monday favorites post. It's been quite a while since the last one and I've really missed doing pretty collections like this. Hope this post will make your Monday just a little brighter like the stars. :)

Is that the most charming little skirt ever or what? The starry fabric just had me at hello.

Star-filled pair of Chucks to go perfectly with the above skirt

This beautiful quote says it all

This pretty print "Let's sleep under the stars" :)

I really don't think this movie will ever get old

'Cause baby you're a firework... show them what you're worth. :)

This used to be my favorite shirt until the laundry shop decided not to return it to me. :(

A girl can never have too many cute cardigans like this one.

Aren't stars magical? This gives such beautiful imagery!

Don't worry. You'll still land among the stars...

Hope your week is off to a great start, sunshines! Have a productive day ahead of you.

P.S. There's still time left to for you to win a $40.00 Kelsea Echo Jewelry Gift Card in this month's giveaway. Head over this post to enter now. Her cute rings and pretty necklaces are to die for. :)

Stay inspired! :)

Finding my groove back

It's like the first day of school all over again. Spell #thatawkwardmoment please...

Went back to work today after a month-long vacay and it feels so weird in a major way. Not because I have more than a thousand unopened emails to deal with, but because I feel more like a lost puppy struggling to get my groove back.

"Where are my files?"
"Which folder did I save that one again?"
"Who's that person handling this account? Really can't remember."
"Why do I feel so sleepy at 11AM?"

I've been asking too much mindless questions and saying endless sorry's for my unbelievable slowness since this morning that it's almost embarrassing. Probably left both my brain and work mojo somewhere in the beach back at home. Thank goodness for the kindest colleagues who patiently tell me to just take my time until I re-figure things out. Obviously rested and relaxed way too long for my own good.

Have you ever felt this way at work after a looooong break? :(

Excuse me please while I get my fifth cup of coffee for the day. Just hope I still have my job when this day ends. Ugh.

And so we're back!

I know I keep on saying this whenever a new month begins, but seriously, where did September go? How on earth did October start without me noticing it? Everything seems to go pretty fast around here and I'm currently suffering from major vacation withdrawal. Yes, I'm back here in Dubai after a really sweet month-long vacay in the Philippines.

Here are a few things I'd definitely miss back home:

Aside from attending mass on a beautiful church, feeling the start of the Christmas season just about everywhere, and having the refreshing rain on my windshield (finally!), I gotta say that seeing my cute baby nephew/godson for the first time was the highlight of my trip. I'd have to count seven more months again for my next visit. I can't wait!

One more week and I'll have to resume work yet again here in the desert, so I'm enjoying every last bit of rest and relaxation I can get. Still behind on a few emails, but I'll try my best to get back to you guys as soon as possible. A super rad giveaway from one of our cool sponsors is on its way so look forward to it. :)

How's things going?
