Being for the benefit of Mr. Kite

The title of today's post is a Beatles' song I used to hear all the time when I was a kid. It has a very carnival vibe to it that's so reminiscent of my childhood in the Philippines. The start of the Christmas season would mean the opening of the carnival which used to excite me and my brothers big time back then. Games, balloons, rides, and all that jazz... What child wouldn't be excited?

We weren't showered with a lot of toys growing up, so we had to learn to get extra creative. We would draw, read tons of books, and even transform empty milk cartons, tin cans and bottles into robots, cars, dolls, and whatever we pleased. We were already DIY-ing probably even before DIY was even coined! We also made use of the outdoors a whole lot during playtime. We worshiped the sun and we played in the rain. It was so much fun and I surely wouldn't trade my childhood and the way I was brought up for anything.

Flying kites during the summer season was also a favorite and I remember our dad would create the most amazing kites that always flew the highest and blew everyone away. He was (and still is) our Mr. Kite. :)

I found all these Beatles album cover collection cards on super sale at Home Center earlier and instantly thought of getting them for my dad. Was able to get ten pieces which barely cost me a dollar. They really were so cheap they might as well give them out for free! My dad is such a huge Beatles fan so I'm sure he's gonna love these collectibles. Maybe I'll also have these framed for him.

I really miss my dad and the rest of my family back home and I cannot wait to see them again this September for my month-long vacay. :)

What's your best childhood memory? Are you also a daddy's girl like me? And do you also have a particular song that makes you remember your dad?

My favourite band is the Mamas and the Papas because, like you, my dad was a huge fan when I was growing up.
